…Says he’s eating from the table of corruption.

…I sincerely apologize for addressing the youth as “Children” Eliot.

Georgina Onuohaa veteran actress, recently slammed  over his speech on social media regulation at the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Recall that the actor cum politician slammed Nigeria youths, celebrities and social media users over some unruly behavior displayed on social media. He said there is a need for the lawmakers to take action against social media usage, otherwise Nigeria will be gone in 5 years. Desmond Elliot was dragged to filth by social media users for his anti-social media bill statement. His colleague in the movie industry, Georgina came out to condemn him for failing to use his political voice correctly. According to her, Desmond has lost his sense of belonging since he started eating from the table of corruption.

Her post reads; Power does corrupt indeed… What the fuck are you talking about @desmondelliot

You are not making a damn sense Shola??? Are you mad?? Because you now eat from the table of corruption, you’ve all of a sudden lost your sense of belonging?? I’ve always believed that power corrupts, but I held Hope high for you and could swear for your character as a man and as a person. Apparently you are now at a place of convenience, you now think you have the audacity to talk down on the fingers that fed you and the people whose wings propelled you to where you are today?? Fuck you Desmond. Not too long ago at Lagos State University, people like me were giving you transport money to catch a ride back home. You’ve forgotten where you come from… omashey oo. Pele Politician., the youths are waiting for you come next election. Oniranu jatijati.
Desmond I expected this same level of passionate speech when the youths were being killed at Lekki tollgate? Where were your outrages?
I’ve not seen your speech condemning the Nigerian Army or your Governor who lied about it!!
Where is your passionate speech regarding police brutality against the Nigerian youth? Where is your passionate speech regarding the pains and sufferings of the Nigerian youth… That everybody believed would make a change by advocating for the youths and less privileged because we all come/came from nothing to become who we are today but you’ve forgotten that.
I’ve truly lost every atom of respect and love I have for you.
You are better than this Shola ! What happened to you Shola Onyema Desmond Elliot?
I’m waiting for your passionate regarding the untold hunger amongst Lagosians and the high unemployment amongst our youth? You feel differently now because you don’t know what it’s like again to go to bed hungry with zero hopes for tomorrow? Omashey. Where is your outrage addressing Mr. Speaker in your parliament?? Have you forgotten Desmond??
Don’t betray who you are and your conscience.. Power is momentary… don’t lose your soul.
You truly disappoint me and all who loved and cared about you and what you represent.
It’s truly a shame Desmond.

Elliot, a member of the Lagos House of Assembly representing Surulere constituency, recently been criticised on Twitter, for talking down on Nigerian youths. This comes after a video of Elliot scolding the youth during the plenary session of the House went viral on Thursday. He also accused celebrities of stoking violence.

Elliot, an actor and movie director, turned politician, lamented the weird boldness of the younger generation who use social media to talk back at their elders.

He also groaned that the influence of social media was eroding the culture of Nigerian society.

“Mr. Speaker, we need to address certain things; the Nigerian youths, the social media, the social influencers. All these are changing the narratives we see today, except we are joking with ourselves,” Elliot said.

“Social media, yes, it’s good! But it has a negative impact. Let me first thank you for condemning wanton killings and carnage that happened at Lekki. When I went through the comments, I could not believe it, Mr. Speaker. “The curses, the abuses from children, and I asked myself, is this Nigeria? What’s going on? Children cursing? People having the effrontery to enter an Oba’s palace, hold the staff of the office? Culture is gone.

“Mr. Speaker, in the next five years, there will be no Nigeria if we don’t start now. The youth is not only those who did the peaceful protest; those who have looted, who have destroyed lives; they are youths as well.

“Mr. Speaker, the pregnant entered the mosque, picked things and went away. When shall we change this narrative? I put it to all these celebrities out there, all the motivational speakers, this is the only country we have.

“The wealthy will go. When anything happens, what is our common saying? ‘We die here.’ Please, celebrities please social media influencers, stop this already. You have a means constitutionally to change the government. It’s called your PVC.”

Eliot’s outburst drew angry reactions on Twitter with many cementers expressing disappointment on how he addressed the issues.

@_wisdom34 then tweeted “Prophet Desmond said in the next five years there’ll be no Nigeria.”  “Well, I agree because we’ll be having a new Nigeria without corruption and misplaced priorities.”

Another Twitter user @sedooglory commented, “Really????!!!!. Now you will blame the media? When the people’s food items were stored in the Oba’s palace, what did you say? Holding his staff is more important than the lives of the people, who put you where you are is more important? Shey our constitutional power is in our PVC.”

Meanwhile Eliot have apologized:   ‘I have read your honest feedback & suggestions and  I sincerely apologize for addressing the youth as “Children” I did not mean to be insensitive with this, it was borne out of the magnitude of destruction & looting of businesses I witnessed when I went on a tour of my constituency. I saw women crying and my constituent members distraught as a result of the damages inflicted on their source of livelihood. I was moved by this while giving my submission on the floor of the House.  I allowed my emotions get the better of me and for this I apologize to everyone my earlier statements may have hurt.  Please, understand that even the best of us make mistakes. This is why, moving forward, I ask that we all try to engage constructively on the issues that affect all of us. I promise to do the same.  The pain that I feel for my constituents, the calls for assistance that I continue to get, and the need to militate against further destruction and violence will continue to drive my engagements and my work.  I thank you all for expressing your views, and in the future, I promise to be more conscious and aware.  Together, we will build a better Nigeria’, Eliot concludes.
