Governor Godwin Obaseki Re-Elected Floors Osagie Ize- Iyamu

Mr. Godwin Obaseki, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Candidate has won the 2020 Edo State governorship election

There was jubilation in Benin, Edo State as PDP candidate in the Governorship Election, Godwin Obaseki won.

This is according to results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

In a video that surfaced online on Sunday, officials in the situation room were joyful.

Some of them were seen shouting “4=4” and “4+4”. The video also showed the officials, including Obaseki, clapping as results trickled in.

At the end of voting on Saturday, in the Edo governorship election and the final collation of results was announced by the INEC headquarters in Benin.

Governor Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party was pronounced winner after recorded more votes from the total results of the 18 Local Governments declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Obaseki, the incumbent Governor and of PDP ran against APC standard-bearer Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Godwin Obaseki who is currently serving as the Executive Governor of Edo State was sworn in as the governor on 12 November 2016.

Obaseki was elected on APC’s platform in 2016 but defected to the PDP after being denied the ticket owing to intra-party squabbles.

A total of 14 parties took part in the election but the results show a two-horse race between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (APC).

The PDP scored 307,955 while APC had 223,619 votes from the declared results in the 18 LGAs.

Obaseki won Ize-Iyamu by a wide margin of over 84,336 votes.

The election held in 18 Local Government Areas of Edo, 192 Wards, and 2,627 polling units.
